6. BRAHMASTRA: PART 1

Language: Hindi

Genre: Fantasy

In Brahmastra, the rich ancient Indian mythology is explored -similar to how Marvel and DC handled Norse and Greek mythology- to  successfully construct a distinctive cinematic universe rooted in our culture. The film chooses to adopt the well-worn "chosen one" arc, which is suitable for a film of this kind but is undermined by the cheesy and shallow romantic track that runs concurrently.

The film's writing, specifically the uneven and superficial screenplay, is another problem. Even the performances of the lead cast themselves are hardly something to be proud of.  Nonetheless, despite its flaws, the film succeeds as a visual spectacle, with brilliant action set-pieces.

Overall, Brahmastra is a  brave endeavour that is technically sound, yet it is disappointing because of its rudimentary screenplay. A missed opportunity to be honest!!

My opinion: Mediocre
