14. Mukundan Unni Associates (2022)

Mukundan Unni Associates, directed by debutant Abhinav Sundar Nayak, is simply dark comedy at its best. Variety is sprinkled throughout the film, beginning with the opening credits and continuing until the end credits scene (yeah.. the movie has a post credit scene). When we first meet Mukundan Unni, he is a mediocre lawyer struggling to stay relevant in his field. The film then shows us how he uses his shrewdness to get ahead of others in an unapologetic manner.

Mukundanunni is played convincingly as a narcissistic sociopath who will go to any length to satisfy his ego by the brilliant Vineeth Sreenivasan. The entire film is framed around his outright evil ideas, and the film is guided by his mind voices, which can make viewers feel guilty for laughing at things that Mukundan Unni is conspiring against others.

And Mukundan Unni Associates is without a doubt one of the best edited films in recent memory.(Editing Njan Padichitila :P ). The technical aspects of Mukundan Unni associates capture our attention which includes slick edits and unique aspect ratio. Additionally, the ensemble cast's solid performances give the film extra points.

The script of the movie becomes a little disoriented towards the end, but the way the director drives the protagonist to a truly dark shade more than compensates for this flaw. Mukundan Unni Associates can be a difficult movie for someone who enjoys message-oriented films where the evil ones receive apt punishments at the end. However, the film is unapologetic and of the type where the cunning one prevails, which is similar to what actually occurs in real life; thus, staying true to its genre.
